In less than perfest conditions Timmy Crowe was Dooneen's sole representative at these finals, since the great Antoine Burke now domiciled down under, took a silver medal in the high Jump in the early 199Os. Timmy lined up in the first heat of the 400m hurdles at the World Junior finals in Moncton, Canada yesterday afternoon. From the off Timmy got a good start and led to the 100m mark, was second at the 200m mark, but hit a hurdle and lost momentum shortly afterwards and finished in 56.27 in seventh place.
Meanwhile Pat Maher from Mallow who wore the Dooneen singlet in Belgium last year progressed from his heat with a time of 52.46 but with the same time today in the semi final could only finish sixth and bowed out.
Well done to both Timmy and Pat on what was a great achievement to compete in the World Junior Championships. Timmy has had a fantastic year having travelled to Doha for the World Indoors, more recently to Mannheim in Germany and Bedford in the UK for the AAAs, rounding off his travels this year in Moncton Canada. Not bad going for the lad from Sixmilebridge - who also managed to squeeze his Leaving Cert. |

In addition she has repesented Ireland on several ocasions most recently on the Irish senior team in Budapest, Hungary. A multi talented sportswoman, Fiona has played international soccer for Ireland and camogie and ladies gaelic footbal for Kilmalock and Limerick.
