After a good winter season training at home and in warmer climes Orla Drumm eased her way back into competition with a satisfactory 1000m run in the AAi Games in Nenagh on Saturday last. With seven runners in the field Orla fiished in third place behind 800m specialist Laura Crowe and Birmingham UK based medical student Sarah Louise Tracey. Over the next few weeks Orla wil run in Indoor meets in Vienna, Bratislava and Dussledorf, then culminating with a run in the Odyssey in Belfast. Hopefully these races will get her times up for the bigger indoor events coming up thereafter.
Also in action on Saturday last was Ger O'Shea who competed in the 60m making it to the B Final where he was a comfortable third. There to support Ger was brother Dave now completing a post grad programme in DCU Dublin. He missed the outing on Saturday due to exam pressures but he reported he is training well in Dublin undr the watchful eye of Limerick man John Shields. Another Dooneen athlete now based in Dublin is Dave's fellow sprinter Cian Aherne who was one of the top sprinters in Ireland last year. Also noted for rugby Cian is now playing with AIL Div 1 outfit Landsdowne RFC where he is reportedly playing very well.
