Fiona Moloney from Kilmallock one of the club's highest ranking national athletes is now putting the finishing touches to packing her bags as she departs for the prestigious Grand Canyon University in sunny Phoenix, Arizona, USA. All in the club wish her every succss and good luck.
Coached by her father Gary a leading throws coach in the region, Fiona has worn the Dooneen singlet with distinction for several years including the national senior championships where she was recently second. In addition she has repesented Ireland on several ocasions most recently on the Irish senior team in Budapest, Hungary. Her decision to accept this offer is a measure of Fiona's committment to take her sporting career to a new higher level at GCU, where she will be one of the first Irish athletes to be recruited.
A multi talented sportswoman, Fiona has played international soccer for Ireland and camogie and ladies gaelic footbal for Kilmalock and Limerick. This will be a big change for Gary also, but he has indicated firmly that he will continue to help out the next generation of young throwers in the club and will be staying committed to coaching in Dooneen.
Best of luck to Fiona in Arizona.
