Good performances by Dooneen Athletes in Birmingham this weekend. Print E-mail

In mixed weather conditions against the highest quality atheltes in Britain, there were three Dooneen athletes in action at the English open Championships at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham this weekend. Accompanied by coaches Tim Crowe snr. and Simon Jege, all performed well in the club's red singlets. First into action was Timmy Crowe, completing an explosive first full season on the track, in the heats of the 400m hurdles. He finished in 58.21 just 2 secs above his PB and was unlucky to be edged out of the finals, but certainly an athlete to watch out for in the future. Next into action was Cathal O'Connor in the 1500m steeplechase.

Victory for Cathal in Morton Memorial Meeting in Santry. Print E-mail

On a great night for Irish athletics at the Morton Memorial Meeting in Santry Stadium, Dooneen had two athletes in action before a good sized crowd. First into action was Cathal O'Connor in the boys u17 1500m in a small field of about eight runners, he showed that he had shrugged off recent illness to complete a new PB of 4.09. This will be a good boost as he completes his preparations for the English Open in Birmingahm in a few weeks time, where he will compete with clubmates Timmy Crowe and Nathan Jege.

Success all round at AAI National Relay Championships in Tullamore. Print E-mail

At the AII indoor relay championships in Nenagh last April, Dooneen served notice that they would be a force in Irish juvenile relay running this year and even with a few absentees in the sunshine in Tullamore, could still call on enough athletes to enter eleven teams, with eight featuring in the medals, and one just squeezed out in a photofinish. While there was no records broken it could easily be a new record to get that many relay teams into one bus. In summary u15, u16, and u17 girls teams took gold and they were joined by the 'pocket rockets' led by Mark Varley and Dylan Sheehan who took gold in the u13 boys. Silver went to the u14 girls, while the older boys teams specialised in the Bronze medals at u14,u17,and u18. Well done to all more details and images to follow. Special thanks to Liam O'Hora just back from warm weather training in Marbella for hosting the celebration party in his house tonight - cidona all round.
