Good results by Juniors and u23s in Tullamore Print E-mail
The sun continued to shine in Tullamore today where there were some more great performances by Dooneen athletes in the AAI Junior and u23 finals. There was a smaller turnout than usual due to a combination of injuries and exams, but the quality was still evident. The following were the main club highlights on the day.
  • Arizona bound Fiona O'Shea was the clear winner in the junior shot putt without reaching her best at 11.88
  • Niall Counihan was fifth in the long jump and did well in the 100m heats as he was hampered by an ongoing ankle injury.
  • The dependable Nathan Jege was fouth in the long jump at 6.48m
  • Emmanuel Sabayo won double bronze with a clearance of 1.75 in the high jump and a new PB of 15.84 in the 110m hurdles. With his exams behind him he is an athlete with immense potential which hopefully will be realised over the next few weeks.
  • Canada bound Timmy Crowe was a rather casual winner of the 400m hurdles in 57,47 but showed his true form in winning the 200m heat in anew PB of 22.15 and then ran another PB  shortly after  of 22.13 in the final where he was an impressive second.
  • Interestingly Timmy is now nationally ranked in three events following these 200m performances as follows:
    • #5   400m Hurdles 53.34
    • #8    400m 48.58
    • #16  200m  - 22.13 less than a second off Antoine Burke's club record of this century.
  • But in case anybody gets carried away there are several nationally ranked athletes in the club at present the highest ranked being  #2 ladies shot putter Fiona Moloney. Others include David O'Shea, Cian Aherne, Orla Drumm, Nathan Jege, Emmanuel Sabayo, Jane Dickinson Ailsih Sheehan and of course rising young high jump star  #4 ranked Aishling Croke.

Well done to all.

Tailteann Games Success for Dooneen Athletes. Print E-mail
In glorious sunshine in Tullamore today at the Tailteamm Games schools interprovincial, there were some outstanding results for Dooneen athletes. Not for the first time this season Aishling Croke was spectacular in winning the girls high jump and while she may have been overlooked in the past, their will be no denying her a place on the Irish schools team to compete in Glasgow, Scotland in the next few weeks.

Having already shattered 11 competition records in recent times, Aishling who is already ranked #4 in Ireland, achieved a new PB with a magnificent jump of at 1.74m, a great achievement for such a young athlete. Sister Brona was also in action and she confirmed her rising status in the 3000m with a 5th place finish.

Greg O'Shea a huge sprint talent to emerge over the last two years was second in the 100m and third in the 200m in very impressive times. Finally in one of the tightest finishes of the day, it was a Limerick one/two and there was practically nothing to separate Sarah Lavin who won the 80m hurdles in 11.7 fractionally ahead of Lily Ann O'Hora in 11.8   Amy O'Donoghue of Villiers continued her hughly impressive season with a fine victory in the 800m, to confirm the good health of Limerick juvenile athletics with four gold, two silver and a bronze in a fine Tailteann hoard.

Well done to all.

Crowe to compete in JP McManus Pro Am in Adare. Print E-mail
Its been a busy few weeks in the Crowe household recently. While young Timmy has been burning the mid-night oil at his books for the Leaving Cet over the last few months and meeting the world qualifying standard at the same time, father Tim senior and his team has been busy with the small ball with no little success either.

Tim and Co have qualified to compate in the JP McManus Charity Golf event in Adare next week where he will be mixing it with Tiger and the best golfers in the world. I don't know how his golf will hold up against the Tiger, but Tim should have him for speed over the first 400m.

Enjoy.
