It was another busy weekend for Dooneen atletes on and off the track. Highlights included the performances of Ashling Croke and Greg O'Shea in Tullamore both of whom shortly will swap the red singlets of Dooneen and join Lily Ann O'Hora n the green singlets of Ireland for the Irish schools team that travel to Scot;and for the annual schools international.
This weekend however Ashling Croke continued her favourite pasttime of late and that is smashing records, as she broke her 12th record of recent times to win the u16 girls high jump in 1.69m. It was below her best but enough to do the job. Also on Saturday promising sprinter Greg O'Shea took an impressive gold in the 100m and his schoolmate Rhyse Joyce made it a rare one two for Dooneen, as he came home in an impressive second.
Jane Dickinson had a great result in the u18 girls 100m finishing second in her heat and holding that position well to finish second in the final also for a silver medal in an impressive 12.20 secs.
On Sunday medals were a little scarcer for Dooneen with Shannen Ryan taking bronze in the u18 girls 3000m, after an unlucky few races which saw the tigerish Sarah Lannigan squeezed into fourth in the u15, 800m and Jessica Coyne also finished fourth in the u16 gilrs 800m. Also coming home in fourth in the boys 3000m was Shane Lynch who was making his comeback after exams and was a little short on race practice.
At the 59th annual Cork city sports in CIT Cian Aherne was second in the 200m while Ger O'Shea was 3rd in te 200m and fifth in the 400m. Well done to Ger and Cian.
Timmy Crowe was part of the Irish junior squad preparing for the Worl Junior Championships in Moncton Canada shortly. The squad competed in the prestigious Bauhas Gala event in Mannheim in Germany. Timmy finsihed in 55.23 in the 400m hurdles, just outside his recent best, but is training very well and is poised for another big performance sooner or later.
Orla Drumm was in action in a high quality international field in a BMC Gold meeting in Watford, UK last week where she ran in the A series running close to a seasons best in finishing in 4.11.
All the other action this weekend was in the Castleoaks, where stamina of a different type was required at Evelyn Roche's weddng to Declan. Tracey will be doing a full report on this event separately.
Best of luck to Tim Crowe senior and his team, this week who competes in the JP McManus classic in Adare, with Tiger and the lads.
Well done to all. |
