  • Heartbreak for Dooneen's leading hammer thrower Kevin Lynch in All Ireland Minor final in Croke Park last Sunday. Kevin who lined out at centre back in front of c.82,000, was a key man on the Clare team that went so close to making history against the much vaunted Kilkenny side. To add to the pain of defeat Kevin also broke his hand in the first half in a suspect challenge but played through the pain barrier until near the final whistle when he was eventually substituted. Better news for Kevin who was a top class student in St Caimin's this year started his first choice in UL where he wil study PE and Maths. Well done to Kevin.

Dooneen Athletes to compete in Glasgoew this weekend. Print E-mail
Three Dooneen athletes will wear the green singlets of Ireland this weekend at the schools international in Glasgow Scotland, the latest group in a conveyor belt of talented athletes that have competed in this event in the last few years. The group includes three of Ireland's most exciting athletic prospects, all as it happens pupils of Crescent College in Dooradoyle.

Aishling Croke ranked #4 in Ireland overall in the high jump with a PB of 1.74m will be hoping for a good performance. Greg O'Shea will wear his first green singlet for Ireland ( and will probably make it a double with arugby shirt also at some point)  will compete in the 100m. He  will have nothing to fear after his outstanding results in the recent AAI juvenile finals in Tullamore. Finally Lily Ann O'Hora will complete the Dooneen triumverate in the 80m hurdles.

Completing a very strong Limerick representation will be Emerald AC's top sprinter Sarah Lavin, who has the great honour of being the team captain and the in form Amy O'Donoghue who recently broke 2.10 to set a new PB to push her up into the top ten in the 800m athletes in Ireland for the first time.

Speaking directly to Dooneen's Liam O'Hora, who is in Glasgow specially for this event, he reported that all athletes were in good form and he was confident there would be good performances all round and was looking forward to competition.

 Best of luck to all.

Check out Limerick City Sports Partnership on web and facebook for more photos and race report.  Well done to Moira, Diarmuid, Aidan, Karina & Dave, all representing Dooneen Fit4Life. Well done also to Shane Lynch, also of Dooneen A.C., second Junior home and to Kevin O'Connor, our webmaster.

Next race will be hosted by Dooneen A.C. Fit4Life so we will be hoping for a big turnout on Thursday August 5th. All welcome!
