Ailish strikes gold at Celtic Games in Scotland.

Ailish Sheehan, the only Dooneen athlete competing, capped the end of a great season when striking gold for the Irish u16 girls team at the Celtic Games in Scotland in wet conditions in Grangemouth in Scotalnd over the weekend. Teams from Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Ulster competed at u16 girls and boys and u18 girls and boys levels. Her gold helped the Irish u16 girls team to second place and overall second to Wales for the Irish team on the day. Ailish is now one of two all Ireland juvenile Shot athletes in the club, the other being Fiona Moloney from Kilmallock. Fiona won the u17 girls Shot in Tullamore some weeks back. Ailish's winning throw of 11.76 was slighly below her winning throw of 11.84 in the Antrim Forum, but ahead of her throw of 10.43 in the SIAB schools international in Bedford. Ailish who is also an accomplished javelin thrower is now established as one of Ireland's leading up and coming throwers and an athlete to note for the future. Congratulations to Ailish and also to her father and coach John Sheehan.
