Good performances by Dooneen Athletes in Birmingham this weekend.

In mixed weather conditions against the highest quality atheltes in Britain, there were three Dooneen athletes in action at the English open Championships at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham this weekend. Accompanied by coaches Tim Crowe snr. and Simon Jege, all performed well in the club's red singlets. First into action was Timmy Crowe, completing an explosive first full season on the track, in the heats of the 400m hurdles. He finished in 58.21 just 2 secs above his PB and was unlucky to be edged out of the finals, but certainly an athlete to watch out for in the future. Next into action was Cathal O'Connor in the 1500m steeplechase.

Newsflash

Fine performances for Dooneen in the rain and the sun in CIT Cork.

Dooneen had over 20 athletes in action in the CIT Track in Cork over the weekend with contrasting weather extremes between the rain and wind of Saturday and the sun on Sunday. Overall the performances yielded a fine haul of medals with Nathan Jege returning to top form taking 3 gold and a silver individual on the track and adding two more silvers in the relays. Anton Katayev took a gold in the shot and a silver in the javelin in the field events. Ciara Barrett with one gold, one silver and two bronze on the track and Margaret Gleeson with two gold in the 100m and the 200m were top girl performers on the track, but Ailish Sheehan a gold a silver and a bronze and a fourth placing was top performer in the girls field events. In the relays the boys outperformed the girls featuring in five relays to the girls one, which must be the first time this has ever happened and well done to Steve Howard, Nathan Jege and Timmy Crowe who helped organise and inspire most of the teams. Regardless of the medals there were many fine encouraging displays from new athletes, athletes returning to action after an absence and athletes who have been ill and are now clearly returning to top form. For full details see results section, images have now been posted on the gallery.
