Newsflash

Shannen shines in Turnpike.
A small band of Dooneen athlete's travelled to Turnpike, outside Thurles for the Munster even age championships. Athlete of the day was  Shannen Ryan contining her good form of late, with a strong perfomance in blustery weather conditions. From the gun Shannen opened a 30m lead which she held until the finish line, to get her season off to a great start, with possibly greater things to come. First into action on the day in the boys u10 race was young Tommy O'Hora who had a good run to finish 14th from a field of over 100 runners, before he heads off for more warm weather training with his family. Next off was Evan Cusack who ran a game race and did well finsihing well up with the pack. Then it was the turn of the improving Jessica Coyne in the u14 girls and again she confimed her improving form to finish 9th and qualify for the All Ireland finals in Tramore, Co. Waterford in about 5 weeks time.

Then it was the story of the day, 2007 All Ireland u12 champion from the Curragh, young Dylan Sheehan arrived late, having been caught behind a marching band while travelling through Tipperary town. Despite this and with one leg in the track suit bottoms when the gun went off, he still managed to get up for 5th place in a race out of his age group. Last race of the day with Dooneen interest was the u18 boys. This race was won comfortably by the enigmatic Shane Quinn of Ferrybank with Cathal O'Connor getting up for a creditable fourth in his first outing of the season. Also in this race, new recruit Shane Lynch who looked comfortable in finishing well up with the pack. The next race will be the uneven age groups which will be held a little nearer to home in Cooraclare, near Kilkee, Co. Clare  in three weeks time. It is hoped there will be a much larger turn out of Dooneen athletes.
