Return to Level 5 Training

The announcement yesterday that we return to Level 5 restrictions means that Dooneen AC juvenile and senior athletes cannot train in their groups until January 31st at the earliest. I know it is disappointing for children, parents and all coaches/volunteers with the club.

On behalf of the coaching team at Dooneen AC, we would like to thank every child and parent for your co-operation this year – training took place in a safe and controlled environment thanks to you. Venues, dates and times were chopped and changed around without any complaint or fuss!!. Children attended training both in the sunshine and in atrociously wet conditions with little complaint.

We will be in touch with individual groups next week with some suggestions about training.

Development and purchase of land at Mungret

As many of you are aware, we entered into an agreement with Limerick City and County Council to purchase a 5.87 acre site at Mungret, beside Mungret College. There has been a lot of delays on the completion of the purchase – issues such as the building of the road to access the land etc.

A group of Dooneen AC members visited the site on the 29th December. We have begun to make plans to have the purchase completed as soon as possible. We are also planning to publish drawings of possible development on the site in the coming months. We would welcome any input that members might have.

Notices

  1. Training continues as normal. Despite the level 5 restrictions, an exception is made whereby school going children can still attend training. Furthermore, children and parents are permitted to travel outside their 5k zone to travel to and from training
  2. Cross Country – due to Level 5 restrictions being introduced next week, our XC will not go ahead this weekend. However, the event may well go ahead later in the year and we will update you on this. 
  3. 20×20 – Dooneen has signed the 20×20 Charter which is an initiative aimed at getting more encouraging more girls/women at player and coaching level. The first video featuring a lot of our juvenile girls is available on our Facebook page (sorry I cannot seem to attach it here) www.faccebook.com/DooneenAC. Please log on and have a look. Of our juveniles, over 65% are girls and we have a very good percentage of female coaches. We are having a few photos taken of our young female athletes and coaches tomorrow at training. Please try and get them to wear their Dooneen Zip top or training fleece
  4. Half Zip Tops – Mike is taking order for the half zip tops. Please talk to him at training or email us.
  5. Membership for 2021 – membership is now open for 2021. Please as far as possible, can you pay online via our website – http://www.dooneenathleticclub.com/member-renewals-form/

Training Times and Days

  • Monday night – U8, U9 and U10 athletes ( those born in 2011, 2012 and 2013) This takes place in Vartry field at 7pm. Please again remember not to park on or around the cul-de-sac or on Vartry Avenue.
  • Thursday night – Crescent College Comprehensive at 6.30- 7.30pm for older athletes U11 and upwards ONLY. You have all be assigned groups. Please stay in your groups.  Park at the rear only. €2 contribution per child for training
  • Saturday – 9am at UL track. All ages.

At all training sessions, we would ask parents to avoid congregating and/or standing around where possible at all.
Please bring a bag with your water bottle and hand sanitizer and a warm top, socks in case it rains. There are no changing facilities or toilets. Please arrive no more than 10 mins prior to training and observe social distancing.
Please do not attend if you have been

  • Out of the country the last 14 days
  • Around someone with symptoms of Covid-19 the last 14 days
  • In a period of self isolation
  • Displaying covid-19 symptoms

Dooneen AC has signed the 20×20 charter, which is a national initiative aimed at getting more encouraging more girls/women at player and coaching level – 20% more participation in 2020. Over the coming weeks, we will prepare a number of videos from senior, coaches and juvenile ranks to promote this. Here is the first one featuring our juvenile girls, where over 65% of our members are girls!

Good morning. A few important notices


There is NO training next Saturday, 24th Oct and Monday 26th Oct – bank holiday weekend.

TRAINING TIMES AND CONTRIBUTION OF €2 THURSDAY

Monday 7pm to 8pm – for athletes born in 2011, 2012 & 2013 only. Training takes place at Vartry Field, Raheen. There is strictly no parking or set down facility for athletes or coaches in or around the training field as it is a small cul-de-sac. Instead, we are advising parents to park at Raheen Church carpark and walk up with your child or drop your child at Raheen Foodstores

Thursday 6.30pm to 7.30pm – for athletes U11 and upwards ( born 2010 or earlier). Training takes place at Crescent Comprehensive. Please park at the rear carpark and drop your child there. From this Thursday, we are collecting €2 per child in order to help fund the costs of the facility charges.

Saturday, 9am at UL Track – all athletes

MEMBERSHIP

Membership forms were handed out at training on Thursday. This is for 2021. We would encourage as many as possible to pay online – via our website – http://www.dooneenathleticclub.com/join-our-club/new-membership-form/

INFORMATION FOR PARENTS AND ATHLETES ON COVID-19 GUIDELINES
Under the Athletics Ireland guidelines, athletes are only allowed travel to training alone or with a member of the same household. Attached is a map with instructions and directions
No spectators are allowed. However, parents supervising children (limited to one) can maintain an ample distance from the training activity if staying on site. Please make an arrangement with your child to collect them promptly after training.
Please bring a bag with your water bottle (labelled), hand santizer and a warm top in case it rains. Come prepared to run as there is no changing on the pitch or toilet facilities. No spikes required
Please arrive no more than 10 minutes prior to training time and observe social distancing. You should travel to training alone or with a member of the same household. On arrival, you will be checked in and briefed by our Safety Officer. The briefing will include a reminder about social distancing and protocols. Once training is over, you must leave the premises promptly, sanitizing your hands on the way out.

Please do not attend training if have been
