Caherconlish Tom Walsh Memorial 10K

There was a large field of almost 300 runners taking part in this popular road race on Sunday. Running conditions were almost perfect with sunny and dry conditions.

1st male runner home was Declan Moore of Bilboa A.C. in 32:13 and 1st female runner home was Siobhan O’Doherty of Borrisokane A.C. in 36:22.

First home for Dooneen was Joe O’Brien in 34:58, followed by Dermot Kearns in 35:31 (and 1st O/40 male), Shane Ryan in a PB of 37:45, Derek Cullen in 39:08, Rosemary Ryan in 39:25, Shona O’Flynn in 40:26, Henry Downes in 40:50, Karen Raine in 43:02, Alison Flynn in a PB of 45:02, John Shier in 48:36, Marie Keane in 50:19, Katherine Reddan in 57:13, Michelle Kennedy in 57:58 and Conor Lovett in 58:04. Joe Chawke paced 50 minutes and Ger Meehan paced 60 minutes. Well done to all athletes and race organizers.

Munster Juvenile Indoor Relays

These championships were held in Nenagh on Sunday.


Victoria Amiadamen, Aimee Ryan, Debbie Lawal, and Emer Conroy won gold in the U16 4 x 200m in 1:50.72. Sarah Butler, Maria Campbell, Debbie Lawal, and Victoria Amiadamen won silver in the U17 4 x 200m in 2:27.53. Ella Dillon, Sally Dickson, Oyimkansola Adedeji, and Sarah Butler finished 4th in the U18 4 x 200m in 1:55.95.


Luke Tuohy, Diro Lawal, Fintan O’Sullivan, and Tessy Lawal won bronze in the U19 4 x 200m in 1:40.79.

Munster Junior & U23 Indoor Championships

These championships took place in Nenagh on January 5th.

Junior Men:

Jack O’Connor finished 5th in his 60m heat in 7.63.

Junior Women:

Maria Campbell won her 400m heat in 1:03.14. In the 800m, Sarah Butler finished 3rd in 2:26.06, followed by Maria in 2:27.26.

U23 Women:

Grace Culhane won the 1500m.

Well done to everybody who took part.

Ballyhoura Moonlight Marathon Challenge

This event took place on Friday night. Congratulations to Thomas Klimas, who won the marathon in 4:14:01. Well done to Michael O’Donoghue, who ran 5:14:14. Well done to Eileen Reeves and Katherine Reddan, who ran the half-marathon.

Country Club 5-Mile

There were over 80 athletes taking part in this traditional 5-mile road race hosted by Country Club A.C. on New Year’s Day. Niall Shanahan was first man home in a superb time of 25:20 and first woman home was Sharon Cleere in an excellent time of 29:28. Dermot Kearns was first home for Dooneen in 28:38 followed by Ronan McAvinue in 35:06, Karen Raine in 35:11, Mike Griffin in 35:27, and Robert McCarthy in 36:22. Well done to all.


On New Year’s Day, several members took advantage of the once-a-year opportunity to take part in 2 parkruns on one day. Shona O’Flynn, Ger Meehan (who ran his 50th parkrun!), Eileen Reeves, Seamus O’Flynn, and Marion O’Halloran ran both Amager Fælled parkrun and Fælledparken parkrun in Copenhagen, David Rohan ran both Coole parkrun and Lees Road parkrun (where he ran his 50th parkrun!), Brian Halpin, Alison Flynn, John Shier (who achieved a PB), Kat Reddan, Conor Lovett, Michelle Kennedy, Patrick Noonan ran Limerick parkrun, and Shane O’Sullivan (who achieved a PB), Brian Halpin, Louise Matthews, Alison Flynn (who achieved a PB), John Shier, Catherine Sheehan, John Sheehan, June Clifford, Kat Reddan, and Conor Lovett all ran Mungret parkrun.

On Saturday, Lorraine Moran ran Killarney House parkrun, David Rohan ran Clarisford parkrun, Andrew McMahon, Brian Halpin, Alison Flynn, Claire Knight, Ger Meehan, Patrick Noonan, Seamus O’Flynn, Marion O’Halloran, Oran Kennedy, Michelle Kennedy, and Eileen Reeves all ran Limerick parkrun, while Gerard O’Shea, Jonathan Coleman, Louise Matthews, John Sheehan, Catherine Sheehan, John Higgins, and Meena Verma ran Mungret parkrun.

St. Stephen’s Day 10K
148 athletes took part in this very popular festive race in Caherdavin on St. Stephen’s Day. First home for Dooneen was Dermot Power in 5th overall and won the O40 category in 36:21 followed closely by Dermot Kearns who was 2nd in the O40 category in 36:28. Shóna Keane won the women’s race in a great time of 38:33, Niall Harris in 39:50, Shona O’Flynn was 2nd in the women’s race in 41:35, Andrew McMahon Jr. in 41:42, Andrew McMahon Sr. who was 3rd in the O50 category in 42:49, Martin Mutsters in 44:13, Karen Raine, who won the O40 category in 44:55, Mike Griffin in 45:40, Marie Keane, who was 3rd in the O40 category in 49:40, John Shier in 50:10, Ger Meehan in 54:24, Conor Lovett in 57:55.

MCI Portumna
Well done to Elaine Lyons, Eileen Reeves, and David Rohan, who ran the MCI Portumna marathon on Friday in 4:36:45, 4:36:45, and 4:36:51 respectively.

Club Person of the Year

Congratulations to Mike Purtill, who was presented with the 2019 Club Person of the Year award at our Christmas night out last weekend in recognition of his huge contribution to Dooneen A.C.

Irish Life Health National Novice & Juvenile Uneven Age Cross-Country Championships

These championships were held in Dunboyne on Sunday.

In the U17 girls’ race, Dooneen were represented by the quartet of Sarah Butler, Maria Campbell, Sarah Dillon, and Sarah Hosey – it was great to have 4 athletes who have come up through the juvenile ranks together competing in the U17 All-Ireland race. First home from the club was Maria Campbell, who was part of the bronze medal-winning Munster team, followed by Sarah Hosey, Sarah Dillon, and Sarah Butler.

Kevin O’Grady produced a great performance in the U19 boys’ race, finishing 11th and helping the Munster team to a bronze medal.

Congratulations and well done to everybody!



Newmarket 5K

This race took place in Cork yesterday, with a very large field of over 300 participants. Well done to Joe O’Brien, who ran a PB of 16:54, and to Henry Downes, who ran 19:29.
