Limerick Senior, Intermediate & Juvenile Even Age Cross-Country Championships
Newcastle West was the venue for this year’s County Senior, Intermediate & Juvenile Even Age Cross-Country Championships in blustery conditions on Sunday. Thank you to West Limerick A.C. for hosting what was a very well-organised event.
U16 Boys
Alan McCutcheon and Ross O’Carroll won gold and bronze in the U16 boys’ race.
Senior & Intermediate Women
Murna Griffin led the Dooneen women home, closely followed by Rosemary Ryan, Róisín Doran, Shona O’Flynn, Lisa Horgan, Eimear Laffan, Marie Keane, and Eileen Reeves. Commiserations to Shóna Keane, who had been running very well before unfortunately having to pull up due to injury – best wishes for a speedy recovery, Shóna.
Murna Griffin won silver in the Senior category, with Rosemary Ryan claiming bronze. The team of Murna, Rosemary, and Róisín Doran, and Shona O’Flynn won the Senior team competition.
It was a Dooneen 1-2 in the Intermediate category, with Murna and Róisín on the podium. The team of Murna, Róisín, Lisa Horgan, and Eimear Laffan won the Intermediate team competition.
Senior & Intermediate Men
Dermot Kearns led the Dooneen men home, followed by Joe O’Brien, Thomas Klimas, Shane Ryan, Cormac Downes, Henry Downes, Joe Chawke, and Rob McCarthy.
The team of Joe O’Brien, Thomas Klimas, Shane Ryan, and Cormac Downes finished 3rd in the Intermediate competition.

Fixtures
– The Novice and Masters Men’s and Women’s races, along with the Juvenile Uneven Ages, due to take place in Bilboa on October 11th, have been postponed to November 1st.

Lilliput Adventure Centre’s September Marathon
This event was held in Westmeath on Saturday, and encompassed a number of races. Congratulations to Alison Flynn, who finished 3rd overall in the half-marathon and won the women’s race, recording a PB of 1:32:02 in the process!
Cross-Country
Dates for the Limerick Cross-Country Championships have been provisionally set.
The Novice and Masters Men’s and Women’s races, along with the Juvenile Uneven Ages, will take place in Bilboa, Cappamore, Co. Limerick on October 11th.

Munster Juvenile Even Age, U23 & Novice Cross-Country Championships
This year’s championships were held in Limerick Racecourse on Sunday.
U16 Girls
Maria Campbell, Sarah Hosey, Laura Southern, Sarah Dillon, and Sarah Butler competed, finishing 5th in the club category.
Novice Women
Sinéad McDermott and Karen Raine competed, and were part of the county team who finished 3rd.
Novice Men
Dooneen were represented by Joe O’Brien in the Novice Men’s race.
Congratulations and well done to everybody!
Spar Autumn Open International Cross-Country Festival
This event took place in the National Sports Campus in Abbotstown on Sunday.
Well done to Eoghan Beary, who competed in the Senior Men’s race.

This Sunday morning will see the Munster Evenage and Novice crosscountry races in Limerick, at the Racecourse. A map of the course is shown below. Please note that all cars and vehicles will have to park at the car parks, none will be allowed down to the yard or near the course. All athletes must congregate in the yard shown on the map before their race, and no one will be allowed onto the course before the race due to the course conditions from recent rainfall.

Limerick Novice & Masters Cross-Country Championships
This year’s County Juvenile Uneven Age, Novice & Masters Championships were hosted by An Brú A.C. and Kilmallock A.C. in Bulgaden on Sunday.
U17 Girls
Sarah Dillon, Sarah Butler, and Meabh Keogh finished 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively.
U19 Boys
Kevin O’Grady and Andrew McMahon finished 1st and 2nd respectively.
Women
Karen Raine and Louise Matthews finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Novice category.
There was a Dooneen 1-2-3 in the Masters category, with Rosemary Ryan winning the title, followed by Tracey Johnson in 2nd, and Liz Hussey in 3rd. Next home for Dooneen was Karen Raine, followed by Louise Matthews, Verena Tarpey, and Marie Keane. Tracey Johnson won the O35 category, Rosemary Ryan won the O40 category with Liz Hussey 2nd and Karen Raine 3rd, and Louise Matthews finished 2nd in the O45 category with Verena Tarpey 3rd. The club won team gold in both the 035 and O45 categories.
Men
Thomas Klimas finished 3rd in the Novice category, followed by Joe O’Brien, Niall Harris, and John Shier, with the team winning gold.
In the Masters category, Thomas Klimas was first home from the club, followed by Joe O’Brien, Dermot Kearns, Niall Harris, and John Shier. Joe O’Brien won the O35 category with Niall Harris 3rd, Dermot Kearns won the O45 category, and John Shier won the O50 category. Dooneen won team gold.

Limerick Senior & Intermediate Cross-Country Championships
The Limerick Senior & Intermediate Cross-Country Championships took place in Bilboa, Cappamore on Sunday.
The women’s race was the first of the day. Rosemary Ryan lead from the gun, 2nd home was Sinéad McDermott, next home was Karen Raine, followed by Louise Matthews, Verena Tarpey and Marie Keane to ensure Dooneen won Senior team gold.
Sinéad McDermott won the Intermediate title and Louise Matthews claimed bronze.
Declan Moore of Bilboa ran a brilliant race to win the Senior men’s title. The Dooneen men’s team won Senior bronze with Eoghan Beary in 5th, followed by Thomas Klimas, Dermot Kearns, James Connolly, Henry Downes and Kevin Johnson.
Eoghan Beary finished 2nd in the Intermediate race, and led the team of Thomas Klimas, James Connolly, and Kevin Johnson to team silver.
