Munster B X Country

Posted on Dec 1, 2014 in Dooneen AC, Latest News, x country

Out of the dense fog of Limerick travelled a team of Dooneen Athletes to the Munster B Juvenile and Masters competition hosted by Carraig na Bhfear in Watergrasshill. The sun beamed down on the course which was firm underfoot with some testing inclines. We had teams at U9, U 11, and U 13 in both boys and girls which was wonderful to see. The pace was fast from the outset with a downhill start and with large numbers in each race a good start was important. The u 9 girls were led home by Angel Alfred with her team- mates Katie Enright, Ava Mangan and Sarah O Sullivan running together to complete the course. The team secured 7th place.
Ross O Carroll featured well in the U 9 boys in 22nd place followed on by Evan O Connell, Dayl MCDonagh, Sean O Connell, and Matt Collins bringing the cub team home in 7th position.
In the U11 girls Trudy O Loughlin, Sarah O Shaughnessy and Emily Buckley ran well.
In the U 11 boys Darragh O Sullivan, first Limerick runner home, medalled in 5th place followed on by Luke Ryan 21, Darragh Enright 50, Cathal Mangan 82, Diarmuid Collins 84 and Darragh Johnston 98, bringing them in as 5th club team.
Romy Fehilly led the U 13 girls in with a fine run coming in 6th position and was followed in by teammates Chantelle Robinson 22, Ava Johnston 32, Alanah McDonagh 56 and Andrea O Carroll 91. They were the 4th club team home and very close to the third medal club position.
The U 13 boys followed this with Fintan O Sullivan unlucky not to have a top 12 finish but securing the 13th position! David O Loughlin running up an age had another great run coming in 21 st position and showing improvement with every run. Eoghan Collins and Eoin O Connell completed the team also running up an age and came 6th in the club rankings. Well done boys keep it up. Karl Buckley ran in the U 15 event with a fine strong performance also. It was a family affair with Karl and Emily’s mum Fiona running in the Masters later in the day. This was a superb race with the leaders providing a wonderful spectacle of cross country running. The start of the Masters mens event was a sight to behold with a huge number taking part. Dooneen performed strongly with Joe Chawke, Brendan Coughlan, and Shane Larkin all giving it everything. They’ll be looking forward to a much more social event next Saturday night for the seniors Christmas party and well deserved!
