Newcastle West Open Competition

The 3rd annual open cross country event took place in Newcastle West last Sunday. The Demesne was the venue and it was in immaculate condition. This was an open competition – thus members from various clubs across the country competed. Competition was strong with athletes from 17 different clubs taking part. Conditions were quite humid which made for difficult running conditions with a number of runners pulling out midway. Dooneen women won the overall team event. This was made up of Lisa Griffin, who was 3rd runner home overall, Fiona Treacy, Verena Tarpey and Karen Raine. Also running strongly for the club were Marie Keane, Louise Collins and Michelle English. The men were represented by Eoin Kinsella and Kevin Wilkinson. Alan McCutcheon also competed winning his race.
