National B XC and North Munster schools

National B XC and North Munster Schools Cross Country
 
Dundalk was the venue for the National B XC finals last week. Representing Dooneen was Alan McCutcheon who won a medal coming 6th overall in the 1,500m race. Pallaskenry was the venue for the North Munster also held last week. Laura Southern and Jules Deegan and Ruben McCarthy competed in the minor race. Maria Campbell was 3rd in the junior girls. Also competing was Sarah Dillon, Sarah Butler and Aimee Ryan, Darragh O’Sullivan and Luke Ryan. Luke Tuohy ran in the intermediate race. In the senior race was Kevin O’Grady and Fintan O’Sullivan. A number of these athletes have all qualified for the Munster Schools final this week – Maria, Sarah Dillon, Sarah Butler, Darragh, Kevin and Fintan. Wishing them the best of luck.

Munster U9-U11 indoor finals

U9-U11 Munster Indoor Finals, Nenagh

 

Well done to all the Dooneen athletes who travelled to Nenagh on Saturday to compete in the Munster indoor championships. All of the athletes put in a huge effort on the day and the coaches are very proud of their efforts.

U9 boys and girls

Kate Cantwell, Aimee Sweeney, Gyte Andrijauskaite, Robert Purtill, Sean Moriarty, Dillon Ryle Bourke and Robert Lynch competed in various events including 60m sprints, long jump and 300m distance running.

Special Visitor and training schedule

Our special visitor was very popular at training last night!!! Training continues this week up to an including Sunday morning training in UL at 9am. We will then resume on Monday, 7th January. For those who have already been training or who wish to be considered for relay selection for the Munster Indoors taking place on Sunday, 20th January, please try and attend the Saturday and Sunday sessions.

National Uneven Championships

The National Sports Campus in Abbotstown was the venue for the National Senior and juvenile uneven cross country championships. It is always a great achievement to compete in a national final and all the athletes should be proud of their efforts – many of these athletes were also competing for Munster as well as Dooneen.

Munster Uneven Championships

The Munster Uneven Cross Country Championships took place in Turnpike, Tipperary yesterday and we had a good turnout of athletes from Dooneen

U9 Girls and Boys The U9 athletes experienced a Munster Cross Country for the first time and performed well. The U9 girls were in 6th place overall – Ellen Goggin, Eilis O’Neill, Hannah Williams and Romy O’Brien. The boys also ran well – Freddie Bromell, Robert McCutcheon and Paddy Gubbins

U11 Girls and Boys – Meabh Purtill was 7th overall and will represent Munster in the National Finals. The U11 Limerick County team won bronze and will represent Limerick in the National XC Finals.  A number of the Dooneen athletes are on this team including Samantha Tenzer, Sophia Meaney, Catherine McCutcheon, Aimee Butler and Aisling O’Sullivan – many of these girls were running out of age. Roisin O’Neill and Lucy Kate Gubbins also ran gaining great experience.  The boys were represented by Conor Lane, Michael Casserly, Conor Goggin and Daniel Joyce. They were 12th team overall.

U13 girls and boys – Anna Campbell, Eva Casserly , Alan McCutcheon, Ross O’Carroll, Eoin Carey and Marcus Southern all ran well in the U13 category.

U15/17 Girls and boys – Dooneen AC won bronze in the girls race – the team consisted of Sarah Hosey ( who came 10th overall and will represent Munster in the national finals), Sarah Butler, Maria Campbell and Sarah Dillon. Darragh O’Sullivan ran well in the U15 race. Romy Fehily also represented the club in the U17 race.
