Cross Country Finals – even ages

Well done to the Dooneen AC athletes who competed in Bilboa on Saturday evening at the County even age finals. These events were U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18. There was a big turnout of young athletes and all of them should be very proud of their efforts. Thank you also to the parents who drove them to Bilboa and cheered all the athletes along. A lot of these young athletes were also running a year out of age to gain experience and make up teams.

U10 girls and boys Dooneen AC won gold in the team event. Catherine McCutcheon won the race and silver went to Emer Purtill. They were followed by Samantha Tenzer, Aisling O’Sullivan, Sarah Williams, Niamh Hynes, Roisín O’Neill, Eilis O’Neill, Emily McMahon, Aoife Cuffe and Lily McMahon. The boys ran with great courage and were rewarded with silver in the team event. Robert McCutcheon was third overall and he was followed by Eoin O’Shaughnessy, Freddie Brommel, Paddy Gubbins, Conor Tobin, Cillian Dillon and Cian Dillon. Oisin Garvey sensibly pulled up and will be back to compete in his own age group, the U9 this weekend.

U12 boys and girls Dooneen AC won gold in both these team events. In the girl’s race, Orla O’Shaughnessy won the event followed by Mai McKenna and Aoife Smith in 2nd and third. Kealon Collins followed behind as did Ruby Deegan, Aimee Butler and Rhiannon Heng. The boys has an equally good race with Conor Lane taking silver after a sprint finish up the hill and Conor Goggins in bronze position overall. Their team was made up of Conor Ryan, Gerry Joyce, Marcus Southern, Daniel Joyce and Jimmy McMahon

U14 Girls and Boys Laura Southern won the U14 race with Jules Deegan close behind. The boys took silver in the U14 boys race. Alan McCutcheon, Ross O’Carroll and Daniel McDonagh all ran well to claim silver.

U16 and 18 Sarah Butler won the U16 race and Sarah Dillon was second. Kevin O’Grady and Stephen Cleary also told gold and silver in the U18 race.
