Development and Purchase of Land in Mungret

Posted on Aug 21, 2017 in Junior Events Blog, Latest News, Senior Events Blog

The first phase in the acquisition of 5.87 acres of land by Dooneen AC at Caheranardrish, Mungret from Limerick City and County Council is nearing completion. The total sum for this land is €70,000  – we have raised approximately € 50,000 so far from efforts within the club and we are grateful of the support of members to date. We need a further drive to raise the last €20,000 over the coming months to complete the purchase of the land.

This sports facility will greatly benefit the Mungret, Raheen, Dooradoyle and Patrickswell community area – if you can help by fundraising, donating or giving in any regard, we would be obliged if you could contact us at fundraising@dooneenathleticclub.com.

Munster Juvenile even age and Novice Cross Country

Posted on Oct 25, 2016 in Junior Events Blog, Latest News, Senior Events Blog

MUNSTER JUVENILE EVEN AGE AND NOVICE CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Last Sunday, all roads led to Carrignavar, County Cork for the first of this season’s Munster Cross Country championships. On a perfect day for running big fields were the order of the day.

Dooneen were well represented on the day and we saw some outstanding performances from our athletes.

Pride of place goes to our U10 GIRLS team who took team gold following a great team effort.

Orla O’Shaughnessy showed a clean pair of heels to a field of over 140 athletes to win individual gold. Mai McKenna finished in a superb 9th place despite falling early in the race. Maeve Purtill running out of age finished a commendable 17th and can look forward to her ‘in age’ race in three weeks time in Limerick Racecourse. Freya Weigand stormed home in 35th and the points she gained in the final 200m were vital to the team victory. Katie Enright and Aimee Butler were also part of the team and both ran tremendous races.

In the U10 Boys race we were represented by Cullen Weigand and Jack O’Connor. Both ran fine races and were well up in a massive field.

The U12 GIRLS team finished 11th in the team event. They were led home by Anna Campbell and Rachel O’Connor who both finished in the top 40 despite running out of age. They were followed home by Jools Deegan running in her first ‘Munsters’ and Karris Dillon who was also running out of age.

The U12 BOYs were led home by another ‘out of age’ runner in Alan McCutcheon who finished 26th. Darragh Johnstone, Ross O’Carroll and Darragh Enright also ran fine races and finished well up in another big field of runners.

The U14 GIRLS featured three of our U13 team and all three ran superb races out of age. Sarah Hosey led them home in 6th place followed closely by Sarah butler in 11th and Maria Campbell in 18th. They will be a real force to be reckoned with in next month’s Uneven Aged  Championships. The two Sarahs have qualified to represent Munster in the National finals next month.

in the U14 we were well represented by Jack O’Connor who finished in 21st place despite having an injury which affected preparation for the race and Kallan McCarthy running in his first Munsters in 47th. Great runs by the boys which augur well for the future.

Tanya Cox has represented our club with distinction in the cross country field an once again excelled by finishing 6th in the GIRLS U16 race. Well done Tanya and best of luck in the National final.

Fintan O’Sullivan was our sole U16 BOY and was another athlete competing out of age, A fine run to finish 30th in a high class race.

Well done all and well done to our cross country coaches Jackie and Verena.

Maebh Fenton was the sole Senior runner and took silver in the Novice. A great performance from Maebh
